Japan 2010

Sensei Crocker will be taking a group of students to Japan in August of 2010. We will be going, along with others in our association in Canada (CZWKA), to what is called the Wado World-Cup. It takes place in Nagoya Japan – a world class location within site of Nagoya Castle, which is symbolic of the Japanese martial ways and 'Samurai'. The Wado World-cup is an International Competition (for all ranks and ages) that is surrounded by many seminars and events. It is the great seminars and karate events that are going on at the same time that make this trip so exciting. Students who go to Japan in 2010 will have the opportunity to experience the best in karate instruction and get to hang out and train with Wadoryu practitioners from all over the world. We are also planning to spend a bit of extra time in Japan where we can visit some historical sites in Japan. Among the day trips that we are planning, is a trip to Kyoto (the ancient capital), Mount Fuji (yes, we may just climb to the top), and Hiroshima.

Here are some details that you may want to know. More details will be available in the future.

DATES: August 12 – August 26 – Dates to be confirmed.

WHO MAY ATTEND: All students (and family members who want to travel with them). Minimum age of 13, unless accompanied by an adult. The trip is appropriate for all belt levels including white belt.

EXPECTED COST: ~$3000, which includes $1500 for flight, $600 for food, $900 for accommodations.

HOW DO YOU SIGN UP: There will be two parts to the sign-up. All students who are interested (no commitment) may sign up at any time for fundraising assistance (see below). In approximately January 2010 we will begin asking for commitments from students so that we can get quotes on Airfare and accommodations. A deposit will be due around that time.

FUNDRAISING ASSISTANCE PROGRAM:

Any student who pre-registers with the Club for the Japan 2010 Trip will be entitled to have the majority of the money that they fundraise be set-aside for them. No additional funds, i.e. funds raised by other students, will be available to support their trip. The committee will hold the money that the student is entitled to. If the student goes to Japan they will have the opportunity to use these funds on related expenses. If the students do not go to Japan, the money, which was set-aside on their behalf, will be returned to regular committee accounts, and the student will not be entitled to the funds. **
